Where i read my books
[A WORK IN PROGRESS] – not sure I like any of it but im bored and fancied writing something
I follow a path, decades old, pounded out of the ground by so many feet that came before my own, along an old farm’s broken barbed wire fence at the edge of the woods. the trees, great oaks, grown over hundreds of years, look like old men standing tall with their branches held high and their coats of moss and vines covering their weather-beaten trunks.
through a gap in an old stone wall that, even with all that the elements have put it through over the years, still wills itself to stay upright. the trees hang over the path but refuse to grow on it, as though it is tainted in some way and block out all but the most persistent of the sun’s light.
a second wall whose will to stand faded decades ago, leaving only the base as proof of it having ever existed, there is a large stone, flat and covered with moss, this is where i sit, this is my woods. I will sit and read my books for minutes or hours, i feel comfortable here and confident, i can sit here for hours thinking of nothing and everything, and when I leave this place I feel content.
Download
ive mentioned download but not enough, it was an amazing experience and im so glad i went. the first night was good then second night was even better, then the music started
. on Friday i saw Tyler Hawkins in a little tent and he was surprisingly good playing the drums and singing at the same time, loads of energy. next was kill switch engage, they are not normally what i would listen to but they were pretty good and really knew how to get the crowd going, pretty funny too. after kill switch engage came on i had to choose between Bullet for my Valentine and Them Crooked Vultures, from what i saw and what i heard Them Crooked Vultures was the wrong choice, they have 1 album thats about 55 mins long and the set had to last 70mins, it was a bit meh tbh. one good thing about watching Them Crooked Vultures though was that me Evansy and Mobba were in prime locations for the start of the AC/DC set and i cant imagine ANY band being able to beat the show they put on it felt like every other band that day was just there to support them.
on the Saturday i wandered over and saw some band whose name i missed, they were ok i suppose, went back to the tent, slept, wandered back over for Megadeath who felt dated and then got out of there because i really couldn’t be bothered to see Rage Against the Machine, they were only there because they had that christmas number 1 pfft, but i still had a great day back at the tent with my new friends getting drunk and generally up to no good, we made a cribs style video each with our tents and i sang the theme tune before each one, it was good fun.
Sunday and the heavens opened up the arena seemed at half capacity, the first time it seemed this way all weekend, damn good weather music fans, but me and Mobba stuck it out to see Aerosmith, and they were great too, they were no AC/DC and they didn’t play half the songs i like AND some crazy girl was stood behind us making stupid noises i think she was trying to sing but after about 3 songs her voice went and i really started to enjoy the show.
overall i really enjoyed Download and i really wish i didn’t have to end so soon, i was muddy, smelly, greasy and it was raining but i still could have happily stayed longer had there been more music and drink. i met some really nice people while i was there and i would really like to go to Download again next year or at least another festival, im pretty sure i will write more about download at some point but for now this will have to do.
My New Home
ive decided that i am going to buy a house, i cant afford much but it will be mine. i went to the bank and they said i can borrow £54,000 or 90% of the value of the house i want, whichever is lowest, around by me that could get a nice little terraced house with two bedrooms, i would be able to move right in but it would need a little work or a lot of work judging by what some of the houses ive seen are like.
i havent been in a great place for a while, since the accident maybe? probably longer than that? im not sure but i wasnt happy and that meant i couldn’t motivate myself to do anything that i didn’t need to which included buying a house. when i came back from download i was happy, i know it was thanks to more than one thing but one thing definitely helped
when i got back i saw a house was up for sale in a small street that ive always liked and i decided to start looking around for what else i could afford, first i went to the bank and found out how much i could borrow, then searched for anything and everything within my budget, with my savings and the money im hoping to get from the insurance on the accident i can afford a little over £60,000+fees, which is JUST enough for the little house on the street i like, now all i need to do is view it
finally getting off my arse and doing things is also making me happier, ive found myself wandering around work singing and humming songs that i like and this is not what ive come to consider me to be, its great. don’t get me wrong, i still don’t do much of anything but i am doing more than i did.
The Accident
ive already mentioned that I was in a car accident, stupid taxi driver, I hurt my shoulder and my foot at the time and even though everyone tries it I really did hurt my back, i had a whole day and a half off work because it was just before christmas and by the time the holiday was over it had been 2 weeks.
i struggled in work for over a month, i hadn’t realised just how much stuff we move around till I was trying it with a bad back, i had to see a doctor as part of the insurance claim that ive put in and my solicitor is hoping for around £3,000 which would be great help for the down payment on a house, so far all ive been offered is £2,100 and i was advised to reject it, so i did, now im waiting to hear from them again.
I Hate Taxi Drivers
Went out in Cardiff again Saturday, it was a nice day to be honest started drinking at about 13:30 and paced ourselves, at around 12 we jumped in a taxi to get home and me and my mate were both sleeping in the back from the long day.
About 25 mins later we are almost home and I woke up cos I noticed the car was sliding, my mate was still asleep at this point, we slid around a bend no idea how but if we went off the road it was one hell of a long drop, next thing there is a car in front of us crawling along because of the ice, the taxi driver slams on the brakes, the wheels lock up and we just slid, I whacked my friend on the shoulder, said ‘we’re gonna hit it,’ and braced myself as we smashed right into the back of the other car, spinning it around. i think both cars a write-offs, I phoned the police to report it and they sent a car up to us which got half way up the hill then spun around and was stuck aswell, in the end we had to walk to my friend’s house as the police gritted the road so they could get back down the hill, none of it would have happened if the taxi driver had stuck to the main roads like a person with an ounce of sence, but you just cannot tell them, the stupid git.
ended up having to spend a few hours in the hospital with a bad foot, shoulder and aches and pains in my back, awesome
, I don’t want to think what could have happened.
Usual nights
went to Cardiff with a few mates last night and found ourselves in Oceana night club, im not sure i like the place, but it does have an 80′s bar which is great for dancing and having a laugh. we were stood at the top of some stairs not too long after we got there and some guy walked over said ‘i’m going here you go’ and walked off, he had just handed us £200 in free drink tokens.
after we started putting the tokens to good use we came up with a game, it wasnt original and im sure ive done it before, i’d just never drank so much before trying it. the game was who could use the worst chat-up line and still get the girl, now i dont tend to get the girl when im not trying to make a dick of myself first, so i wasn’t optimistic, but it turned out i was on to a winner with:
‘So im here, what were your other three wishes’
and my friends didnt like it deciding it was ‘not a bad line’ so i had to come up with something else, the only other line i could think of was more than a little crude and after i thought of it was unable to think of any others, so the rest of the night i tried:
‘The names Bond, Uni-Bond, I’m here to fill your crack’
now i find this line funny but needless to say none of the women i tried it on had a sense of humor even remotely similar to mine, so i got back to using the drink tokens to the point where i was really drunk and nothing really made any sence (which is how most nights in Cardiff end in my experience) and started talking shit till the taxi came to take me home.
windows 7 sucks and other things too
ive installed my windows 7 and it isnt half bad (haha), and now the 5gb that vista 32bit couldnt use are being used, yay, bargain for £30. my only problem is i lost my free EA games because i dont remember the email that it was registered too, it wasnt my account it was given to me by a nice guy called Doubletap/Creeps and now i cannot find him to ask what it was
.
in other news: ive come across a few quid and im not sure if i should get a Xbox 360 or an iPod touch, im sure neither would get enough use but ive always wanted both, not only that but im starting to realise i need my own place, and im gonna make an appointment with a mortgage adviser soon, which is scary.
ive completed a few other games:
Both Half Life eps – now i cannot wait for ep3 ep2 ending was awesome
also i finished Ben there, Dan that – which was a kinda cool point and click puzzler and im half way through Time Gentlemen, Please! which is the sequel and also a great game for the genre
i upgraded my computer
i have been looking at the new graphics cards and decided i wanted a gtx275. i now have my gtx275, but so far it has been a bit iffy, its frozen twice and ive had a BSoD once. i dont have m old card anymore cos it is in a computer that i built for my sister for christmas along with my 2nd monitor, it’s a nice little computer and should be great for her to do college work and get het Facebook fix on.
oh i also bought another 4GB of OCZ Reapers for when my copy of Windows 7 is delivered, i will have 8GB of RAM and an almost 900MB GPU let call it 9GB total XD
STEVE!!
i watched ‘Cloudy with Signs of Meatballs’ yesterday, i was surprised, it isnt actually a bad film, i went with my 8yr old nephew and i think i might have laughed as much as he did, in my opinion it was a great family/kids film.
i also watched G.I. Joe a few weeks ago with my nephew and was surprised by how much he enjoyed that too, he had already decided half through the film that he wants it on DVD when it’s out, i thought it was a decent action film with some ok comedy in there, the story was more than a bit silly but since when do you go to watch an action film and it be about the story?
omg im boring
i didnt realise how boring i was till i started a blog.
since my last post i have completed Half Life 2 and started Half Life 1 in the hopes i will find out who Gman is.
i have been applying for a job in IT, but i doubt i will get it, i have enroled on my 2nd year in college.
oo i have booked a weekend in london at the end of october so i can go to the Eurogamer expo and meet some of the ppl i have met on-line over the past 2-3 years, could be interesting.
